Sugar Shock!

Did you know that the average American consumes 22 teaspoons of sugar a day? 

Read nutrition labels !  A gram of sugar is hard to picture. Divide the grams of sugar by 4 to get the quantity of sugar in teaspoons.

16 grams of sugar is equivalent to 4 teaspoons of sugar. Many breakfast cereals and yogurts contain 20 or more grams of sugar PER serving!

There are 40.5 grams of sugar in a 12 oz can of Coke.

  • Forty grams of sugar is the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar.
Drinking one Coke a day for a year results in the consumption of 32 pounds of sugar!
Be aware of what you are eating and the amount of sugar you consume. Adults should have no more that 6 to 9 teaspoons of added sugars a day. ( 24 to 36 grams)
